Joanna Jodar is a board certified Acupuncturist and Herbalist. She is accredited by the National Certification Commission of Oriental Medicine. In addition, she is also an Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist and certified in Facial Rejuvenation. Her clinical experience includes working at various hospitals in New York such as St. Vincent's Hospital, Hospital for Joint Diseases and Lincoln Hospital. I work with adolescents and adults who are hoping to build a better relationship with food and their bodies. I spent 7 years working in a facility that provided inpatient, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient treatment for people healing from eating disorders; thus I have extensive experience helping people build skills and break down barriers so that they can reclaim their relationships with food. In my private practice, I have worked with clients who are healing from eating disorders, and those building new relationships with food having struggled with disordered eating, chronic dieting, and eating issues in general.

I believe that everyone can benefit from acupuncture even if they are apparently healthy. A preventative treatment will assess the imbalances in the person addressing such issues as stress and strengthening the immune system. I remember reading that a person gets sick first on an energetic level before manifesting any outward symptoms. An acupuncturist's task is to keep the person healthy as much as possible before getting to the symptom stage. For the interested client I offer supplements as well as Chinese herbs through an associate in the Metuchen office and Qigong, a Chinese exercise to increase energy.

My counseling is one on one and is tailored to the clients lifestyle and needs. While always encouraging healthy eating and physical activity, I am very practical in my approach to helping clients integrate these behaviors with today's hectic lifestyles. Because of the increasing diagnosis of Celiac Disease, I have begun to concentrate on that condition as well as all types of gluten sensitivity.
