I practice a modern style of acupuncture called dry needling. The principles are based in the biology and physiology of the body. All issues addressed by traditional approaches to acupuncture can be addressed quickly and effectively through dry needling, including headache and migraine, sports injuries and injury-prevention, musculoskeletal and arthritis pain, infertility and menstrual pain, and smoking cessation.

I am moved by each person's path to open to their own healing. It is a great privilege to act as facilitator, co-explorer, witness and partner in this endeavor. Using various schools and methods of acupuncture and its related practices (diagnosis via the senses, touch, moxibustion, cupping, guasha, plum blossom, essential oils, crystals, magnets) we arrive at an understanding of the body-mind pattern and its treatment. I often prescribe Chinese herbs to address acute and chronic patterns. Modalities are selected based on your sensitivities and needs, as well as the levels we choose to address in treatment.

The natural healing process of the body is very powerful. Our bodies are remarkable in the billions of processes that take place every second to help us maintain health. Factors we can take control of to help regain and maintain health include having a healthy diet, exercising regularly, doing daily relaxation techniques, resolving emotional baggage, building a health support team you trust and living wisely.

I'd like people to know that I can treat more than one issue in a session and that most problems will be better within 3 visits. I have had much success with clients with low back pain and those experiencing stress and anxiety. People suffering with migraines or cluster headaches have had total relief for months at a time. I like to do gua sha on clients with colds or bronchitis as I have seen some great results with this technique. If you suffer from side effects from medications, I have a detox treatment that will decrease your symptoms.

I am an accomplished alternative healthcare professional, with over 25 years of hands on experience in the bodywork field. I am passionate about acupuncture because of what it has done for me personally, and the positive results that I have witnessed for so many of my patients. It is important to me as your practitioner, to provide a treatment plan that is unique to you, and supports your health goals. I usually ask that you commit to 3 treatments. Generally, results are experienced by then. At that time we will re-evaluate and determine which course of action is best.

My goal in treatment is to help you find YOUR path to healing with a personalized treatment. I have learned that NO ONE is the same; you may have the same symptoms but each of our bodies are unique. The techniques I utilize are done to find the specific treatment modalities and acupuncture points that will resolve your specific concerns and help your body be brought into balance. I practice a combination of Japanese Kiiko style, Traditional Chinese Medicine, 5 Element and Trigger Point Acupuncture. I utilize a unique Japanese style which I learned from world renowned Master Kiiko Matsumoto.

Acupuncture in Ulster County - is it right for me?
Acupuncture is based on the concepts of oriental medicine or traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and is one of the oldest healing practices in the world. Ulster County acupuncturists are health care professionals who evaluate and treat the many conditions, aches and pains that respond to acupuncture.

Acupuncturists insert very fine acupuncture needles into the body. The purpose of the needles is to stimulate acupuncture points or meridians. The needles do not inject any substance into your body and are so fine as to be virtually impossible to feel. In some cases, acupuncture may be accompanied by electrical stimulation or the burning of moxa, a form of heat therapy. Or use acupressure, where physical pressure is applied by hand or elbow to trigger points with the aim of clearing blockages in these meridians.

'Accupuncture' and 'Accupuncturist' are common mis-spellings.
Credentials for Ulster County licensed acupuncturists?
A licensed acupuncturist in Ulster County needs a minimum of two years college education and must complete three years of professional training and pass the State's approved licensing examination. The three year program includes both theory and hands-on clinical practice. Most States' professional training programs are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM) and by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).
