As a dietitian for over 19 years, I have helped a wide range of clients from pediatrics to geriatrics. I have specialized in bariatrics (weight loss surgery- sleeve, bypass, lap band) for the last 5 years providing medical clearances and long term follow up to ensure lasting success. I believe in the medicinal value of food and focus my efforts on the inclusion verse the exclusion of foods. Although changing ones eating habits can be challenging, dietary changes should not cause stress or feelings of deprivation. My goal is to help my clients adjust their food choices to achieve their health goals safely.

Although I am a “dietitian,” I disagree with “dieting,” especially for weight loss. It leaves us feeling deprived which always backfires in the long run. When we meet, I ask a lot of questions about your health history, medications, food and lifestyle habits, blood work and more. This helps me to help you decide which areas you want to focus on to start. In follow-up sessions we build on this. Alaa Elhannouny, a Registered Dietitian (RD) credentialed by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, completed her supervised practice in the Master's Coordinated Nutrition program at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She received a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Human Nutrition, Food and Exercise from Virginia Tech and completed her Dietetic Internship at New York-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center. Additionally, she completed a Master of Arts in Health Education at Teachers College, Columbia University, and her Healthcare Executive Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) at the University of Miami.

My interest in nutrition began in my teenage years where I struggled with my relationship with food and maintaining my health. I became passionate about the nutrition field and completed a Bachelor of Science and Nutrition at the University of Illinois at Chicago. My dietetic internship included a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings that were dedicated to counseling individuals and helping them maintain nutritional health.
