There is a way you can reach your health goals AND keep your favorite foods in the house! Intuitive eating is validated by research and what that means to you is that when you work with us, you take an assessment before and after 90 days. The real value is staying motivated with progress beyond the scale. My client scored high in all areas except unconditional permission to eat and then when we reevaluated at 90 days she had improved significantly in all areas. Because having confidence in what you’re investing your time money and energy on is actually working is what you really want right?!

My ideal client struggles with diabetes or pre-diabetes & disordered eating. They've been told by medical professionals that weight loss or restricting carbs will improve their A1c and their health, but many clients are left confused, frustrated, and even hopeless. They want to improve their health and prevent diabetic complications without going on crazy diets or losing weight and gaining it back. They don't want to be shamed or afraid of eating their favorite foods. They want to learn what works best for their bodies and create sustainable, healthy habits to improve wellbeing now and in the future.

What is wellness counselling?

Wellness counselling describes the supportive services offered by a counsellor that are focused on diet, physical activity, and mental health. Wellness counsellors will guide and coach clients seeking motivation or advice in these areas and often adopt a holistic approach to health and well-being.

Do wellness counsellors help with nutrition?

Wellness counsellors take a holistic approach to wellbeing, which often includes nutrition in addition to supporting physical and emotional health. They may help coach clients on developing a nutrition plan that works for their lifestyle, or they may help clients better understand how diet impacts their physical and mental health. Because wellness counsellors range widely in their educational background, experience, and specific expertise, clients should ask potential wellness counsellors about their expertise in nutrition, as well as what their approach to nutrition is.

Who is wellness counselling for?

Wellness counselling is ideal for individuals who are generally healthy but seek to make gradual lifestyle changes to enhance their physical and mental health. It is also suitable for those interested in preventing chronic diseases, especially if they are predisposed to conditions like diabetes or hypertension. However, wellness counselling may not be the best fit for individuals with diet-related medical conditions, particularly if the wellness counsellor lacks specific credentials in dietetics, such as being a Registered Dietitian.

What is the difference between a wellness counselor and a dietitian?

The term "wellness counsellor" may seem similar to "dietitian," but key credential differences exist between these two roles that are important to consider when seeking a nutrition professional. A registered dietitian (RD) or registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) must earn at least a graduate degree from an accredited program, complete a supervised practice program, pass the Commission on Dietetic Registration exam, and engage in continuing education. The RD and RDN credentials are regulated by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the largest nutrition-related organisation in the country. In contrast, the title "wellness counsellor" does not require any formal education or credentials; anyone can use the title, including those with very limited or no formal training in nutrition. While there are certification programs for those interested in wellness counselling, the rigor and academic requirements for such programs can vary greatly.
