Eating is complex and personal. Eating can be joyful and nourishing or filled with conflict and pain from past experiences, sometimes passed down through generations. Aside from our individual and family history, our culture and often the world of health care can be harsh and stigmatizing about matters of size and shape and lead people to be in a constant battle with their bodies. Further, the world of nutrition and healthy eating advice can be full of contradiction, misinformation, and rigidity. Finally, any sort of physical issue or illness affected by eating behavior and food choices make it hard to know how to eat to be well.
In practice for over 30 years, I work with eating disorders, co-occurring substance abuse, child and family feeding relationships (including ARFID) and helping people with lifelong weight struggles, which often profoundly disrupt eating. I support size, gender, race and ethnic diversity and aim to help all heal their relationships with food and their bodies.
I specialize in assessing your eating issues and those of your family/child in a thorough, multifaceted way instead of simply handing you a meal plan or protocol. I collaborate closely with my talented mental health colleagues, as I believe in working on underlying issues as needed, including trauma, to progress with eating. Your story is our work together.
