Marie Jean Schwarz
I am a board certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner working primarily through the use of psychotherapy, also known as 'talk therapy', and medication management. At anytime in one's life, psychosocial issues may come up, creating feelings like hopelessness, despair and anxiety. They may or may not interfere in an obvious way, i.e. losing a job or a relationship, however the feelings may be strong enough to cause significant distress to you. It takes great courage to admit when we need help and great freedom, relief and joy to come through on the other side. . .
I have had the honor of working on the grounds of Pilgrim Psychiatric Center in a community residence, a therapeutic community in Far Rockaway, Queens, a men's homeless shelter in the Bowery, Pilgrim Psychiatric Center, Southside Hospital's behavioral health unit and ER, and ultimately in outpatient private practice.
I feel very strongly that it takes action to be the person we were meant to be. This may or may not include psychotherapy, medication, meditation, exercise, healthy eating, attendance at 12 step meetings, help from other professionals, etc. It is truly an an honor to witness that process!
