My approach to health begins with alignment through the laws of nature. Each of us manifests constitutional strengths and weaknesses that emerge during times of crisis. These opportunities present windows for understanding and change. I work well with acute illnesses as well as those that have a tenacious nature .......we all are our own 'book of wisdom' and I endeavor to help you interpret the pages.

Providing compassionate care is the foundation of my practice. Staying true to the origins of classical Chinese medicine, with its philosophical roots embedded in the ideals of virtue, compassion, and wisdom, my approach to healing is carefully focused on the needs of each individual. This includes moving away from the pathological model of medicine that has plagued the modern healthcare system and turning my attention instead to my patients' optimal health and wellbeing. Having been in practice since 1997, my extensive education and clinical practice has deeply informed my ability to effectively treat each patient.

I first discovered acupuncture while completing my pre-reqs with the intention of attending medical school at UW - I was struggling with migraines that Western Medicine was incapable of helping me with. An Acupuncturist was able to help me live a migraine free life what I couldn't have previously imagined was possible. I simply fell in love with the medicine and altered my course to pursue my Masters in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine. Fast forward 14 years, I still love the medicine and am thrilled, on a daily basis, on how I am able to help people improve their lives with a natural, holistic approach to their health.

As a practitioner of acupuncture and Chinese medicine I use subtle information from the body to promote healing. I enjoy using visceral manipulation, cranial sacral, ashiatsu massage, cupping, and moxibustion to address musculoskeletal pain, psychoemotional issues such as insomnia and addiction, and improving digestion. I provide the body with subtle information so that the body's own life force can be strengthened. I chose the name Joy Point Acupuncture, because good medicine should put people at ease and on a path towards well being. Every breath, every movement and every point should bring us closer to our joy and bliss.

Through my practice as a naturopathic physician and acupuncturist I am continually learning from my patients as they demonstrate their resilience and unique gifts while moving through health challenges. Whether I am helping a woman during the transition of menopause or lessening the pain of an athlete’s shoulder or supporting a person as he lets go of his long time dependency to pain medications, I am honored to be invited into each person’s process of healing and recovery.

Acupuncture in Washington - is it right for me?
Acupuncture is based on the concepts of oriental medicine or traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and is one of the oldest healing practices in the world. Washington acupuncturists are health care professionals who evaluate and treat the many conditions, aches and pains that respond to acupuncture.
Acupuncturists insert very fine acupuncture needles into the body. The purpose of the needles is to stimulate acupuncture points or meridians. The needles do not inject any substance into your body and are so fine as to be virtually impossible to feel. In some cases, acupuncture may be accompanied by electrical stimulation or the burning of moxa, a form of heat therapy. Or use acupressure, where physical pressure is applied by hand or elbow to trigger points with the aim of clearing blockages in these meridians.
'Accupuncture' and 'Accupuncturist' are common mis-spellings.

Credentials for Washington licensed acupuncturists?
A licensed acupuncturist in Washington needs a minimum of two years college education and must complete three years of professional training and pass the State's approved licensing examination. The three year program includes both theory and hands-on clinical practice. Most States' professional training programs are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM) and by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).
