We BELIEVE : The body has its own way of healing. Sometimes, because of blockage of the body's energy (called Qi {Chee}), the body loses this natural ability. Like a gardener who waters and provides a suitable environment for plants, a healer helps the body to cure itself. When the body has regained its natural function, there is no need for further assistance. Life is about balance. Health depends on being in balance. In Hand Acupuncture and Herbs uses ancient techniques to regain balance and support the body in healing.

Experience healing in a whole new light. Imagine being met with presence, treated with care and respect and being guided to wholeness, all the while noticing that week by week, you start to feel better. As symptoms disappear, you feel more vital, clear and your desire to actively participate and engage in life increases. This describes the experience of many patients of New Dawn Healing Arts. This is why they continue to refer their mothers, sisters, husbands, bosses and best friends.

"Five Element acupuncture is the foundation and backbone of my practice. This is an elegant and beautiful system of medicine that helps people heal and maintain balance at a deep level. Each person has an innate healing ability. By listening and gathering information about a person's life I can help to stimulate their own healing potential and guide them towards balance and health. I also encourage lifestyle changes such as diet and exercise. In addition to Five Element acupuncture I incorporate Dr Tan's Balance Method and Zero Balancing, a type of bodywork, which balances body energy and structure through touch.

I have been practicing acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine in the Pioneer Valley since 1980. My office is now located in downtown Northampton. My patients come from diverse backgrounds, ranging from those who have an established belief in the mind-body connection to those who arrive at acupuncture as a last resort when conventional treatments have failed. Regardless of how my patients come to acupuncture, I meet them where they are and work in partnership to facilitate healing. Treatment plans are designed for each patient to stimulate the body's natural healing energy and provide relief of symptomatic complaints.

Acupuncture is fundamentally about two things: stimulating movement and balance of body and mind, and, just as important, enabling people to be in positive communication with themselves. My mission is not just to help alleviate pain and other ailments, but to help clients move forward with a new, healthier perspective. I approach my work from a place of stillness and respect, having practiced meditation, qigong and yoga for many years. You will feel at peace here, and that is always the best starting point for healing.

I became interested in natural healing techniques a long time ago. Considering the potential side effects of medicines commonly prescribed, I thought it worthwhile to study alternative methods of healing. Initially, I trained in Shiatsu and Massage Therapy, I graduated from the New England School of Acupuncture in 1984. My post-graduate studies involved extensive training in Chinese Herbal Medicine.

I came into the practice of Chinese Medicine as a patient twenty seven years ago. Receiving acupuncture for the first time was an experience of both welcome relief from pain mixed with a sense of deep relaxation. It is from that experience that I view each patient. With a background in education, I work on treatment plans that give individual focus to patient issues as well as use techniques that can accomplish a treatment goal quickly. Treatment styles include needles, laser, cupping, and non-insertive methods as required. Each patient gets gentle care and is provided with tools and techniques to help maintain good health.

Through acupuncture along with being a psychotherapist has helped me to empathize with and understand the needs of my patients on a deeper level because of my own healing journey. I understand what it is like to not be listened to, taken seriously, or be told my problems were psychological when my body didn't improve as expected. Acupuncture, supplements and healing foods helped me dramatically improve my health. Anxiety, migraines, back/body pain can be alleviated through acupuncture where the body is strengthened over time and symptoms weakened. How would you like to treat the underlying cause of the problems you are facing?

Robert has expertise in both traditional acupuncture and Japanese non-insertive styles. Non-insertive styles are especially gentle methods that re-balance the body without breaking the skin. Appropriate for all patients, non-insertive techniques are particularly effective for children and older patients, those weakened by chronic conditions, and of course a wonderful option for patients uncomfortable with needles.

Acupuncture in Massachusetts - is it right for me?
Acupuncture is based on the concepts of oriental medicine or traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and is one of the oldest healing practices in the world. Massachusetts acupuncturists are health care professionals who evaluate and treat the many conditions, aches and pains that respond to acupuncture.

Acupuncturists insert very fine acupuncture needles into the body. The purpose of the needles is to stimulate acupuncture points or meridians. The needles do not inject any substance into your body and are so fine as to be virtually impossible to feel. In some cases, acupuncture may be accompanied by electrical stimulation or the burning of moxa, a form of heat therapy. Or use acupressure, where physical pressure is applied by hand or elbow to trigger points with the aim of clearing blockages in these meridians.

'Accupuncture' and 'Accupuncturist' are common mis-spellings.
Credentials for Massachusetts licensed acupuncturists?
A licensed acupuncturist in Massachusetts needs a minimum of two years college education and must complete three years of professional training and pass the State's approved licensing examination. The three year program includes both theory and hands-on clinical practice. Most States' professional training programs are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM) and by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).
