Almost any condition can be successfully treated with acupuncture because the goal is to correct the imbalances that are the underlying cause of the patient's symptoms. I find acupuncture is particularly beneficial for those with any type of pain: headaches, back pain, muscle, joint and nerve pain. It is also helpful for those with endocrine/hormonal issues, PMS, irregular periods, menopausal symptoms, digestive issues, abdominal pain, constipation, and diarrhea. Also: anxiety, insomnia; high blood pressure, stress management, chronic fatigue. People with colds, sore throats, asthma, sinus infections, urinary tract infections, and dermatitis can also find relief with acupuncture.

In my practice I strive to awaken the physician within each patient. To that end I emphasize the importance of daily self-maintenance in a way that takes into account individual limitations and experiences. The focus of each treatment is on correcting imbalances that contribute to the symptoms that the patient is experiencing. The overall goal of continuing treatments is to help each individual recognize how daily experiences can have a negative and/or positive impact on the balance of their health. Awareness of potential imbalances is the first step toward improving the overall quality of life.

I feel very fortunate to have found my career calling in such an amazing and powerful medicine. I began my health studies with an undergraduate psychology degree from Brown University. While in college, I became exposed to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and was immediately drawn to its ability to not only treat the body, but the mind and spirit as well. I completed a Master's degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from the Academy of Oriental Medicine in Austin, TX. I was even lucky enough to complete an internship in China at the Chengdu University of TCM.

After working the past 20 years as an Occupational Therapist in a variety of healthcare settings, I became interested in approaching healing from a different perspective to help people become empowered about their health on all levels. I found acupuncture to resonate with my belief that medicine should be judged in terms of how effective it is in understanding and treating the problem as the patient experiences it. Safely, painlessly, acupuncture is able to address a wide variety of medical conditions. Both Western and Traditional Chinese Medicine have their respective strengths, and when appropriately combined, the patient is well served.

Dr. Peter Zilahy has been practicing complementary medicine for the past 30 years. He has an extensive knowledge in functional neurology and medicine along with acupuncture and clinical nutrition. Dr. Zilahy prides himself in being “ahead of the curve” when it comes to natural methods. For example, in the early eighties he was advising patients to stay away from transfatty acids and lowering cholesterol when a cholesterol reading of 300 was normal. In 1989 he was one of the first practioners in the state to implement an exercise center for spinal conditions when the standard of care was bedrest.

I studied and trained in Acupuncture and classic Chinese Medicine both in United State and in China. I completed a Doctoral Degree of Medicine in the specialty of Acupuncture & Moxibustion and Tuina, and studied under a number of renowned Chinese medicine masters. I have lots clinical experience in both China, where there is a high volume of patients, and in the United States. My ongoing study covers frontier techniques. For example, Acupuncture spirit: it is pulse-regulating acupuncture technique from Ling Shu. By changing pulse, it balances and regulates Qi to gain the strongest result from mildest stimulation by smaller and fewer needles.

Acupuncture in 06107 - is it right for me?
Acupuncture is based on the concepts of oriental medicine or traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and is one of the oldest healing practices in the world. 06107 acupuncturists are health care professionals who evaluate and treat the many conditions, aches and pains that respond to acupuncture.

Acupuncturists insert very fine acupuncture needles into the body. The purpose of the needles is to stimulate acupuncture points or meridians. The needles do not inject any substance into your body and are so fine as to be virtually impossible to feel. In some cases, acupuncture may be accompanied by electrical stimulation or the burning of moxa, a form of heat therapy. Or use acupressure, where physical pressure is applied by hand or elbow to trigger points with the aim of clearing blockages in these meridians.

'Accupuncture' and 'Accupuncturist' are common mis-spellings.
