Types of Aromatherapy
Cosmetic Aromatherapy
Cosmetic aromatherapy is the science of adding essential oils to facial, skin, body, and hair care products. The plant essences in these products are useful in helping to tone, cleanse, dry, or moisturize the body. Cosmetic aromatherapy techniques include aromatherapy facials, full-body baths, and footbath.
Massage Aromatherapy
Massage aromatherapy is a form of massage therapy in which massage oil is supplemented with highly concentrated plant products called essential oils. Oils are selected based on the client's needs, blended into a massage oil or lotion, and worked into the skin via therapeutic massage.
Medical Aromatherapy
Medical aromatherapy is the use of aromatherapy to treat clinically diagnosed medical conditions. With this method, a medical doctor prescribes essential oils, which may be taken internally like other forms of medication. Note that essential oils should never be ingested except under the supervision of a certified medical doctor.
Olfactory Aromatherapy
Olfactory aromatherapy is a treatment in which essential oils are inhaled directly or indirectly to promote emotional wellness, calm, and relaxation. Scent is powerfully linked to emotion and memory, and pleasurable scents are useful in unlocking odor memories, triggering buried emotions, releasing stress, and promoting balance and harmony within the body.
Psychoaomatherapy
Psychoaromatherapy is the use of essential oils to induce emotional states or moods, including relaxation, invigoration, or pleasant memories. The oils are diffused throughout a room and inhaled directly or indirectly.
